Security Problems for Small Companies

Author: Jeremy M. Klomp Published May 5, 2011 from SANS

A growing problem in our technologically advanced society is the increase in security related issues for small to medium sized companies. Government regulations now require financial, health care and many other types of industries to meet stringent security requirements and many of the smaller companies are struggling to meet them. With the increase in security related incidents over the past few years, companies are struggling to maintain a secure network infrastructure. Internally they often lack the staff and resources to secure their IT assets and therefore struggle to preserve a secure network. This is causing small businesses to become a security hole themselves because many hackers attack them because of the low security that most companies have and then launch bigger attacks on larger organizations.
